I have the Gel-Sensei I and love it!! The Gel-Sensei II is hard, uncomfortable and too high. Try it in a store and you will see for yourself!

good but not the best! Oct 09, 2009

"volleyball go!"
This is a very sturdy volleyball shoes. The actual looking is better than the pictures you see online. I agree with some of the reviews saying that it is a expensive looking shoes. How about the weight? Some people say it is heavy! Ok, I agree. Would it affect your jumping? Probably not. Do you think 2 oz diff. would make you jump lower? compare to your body weight, 2 oz is nothing. I personally think the problem is the ventilation of the shoes. your feet gets hot soon after you wear it.... This make it four stars instead of five. By the way, I have a flat feet, the arch hurt me at the beginning, after a couple of weeks, it is a very comfortable shoes. Compare to the price, I still high recommend this product. At least, it is an Asics' top product.
nice shoe after break in Jan 30, 2010
By D. MCKICHAN I have played in a competive rec league now for a number of years. Had been a basketball player for the longest time and usually just wore low top basketball shoes to play volleyball in. The last couple of years I switched to a pair of running shoes as I liked the weight better and just felt more comfortable in them. The drawback to them was losing a lot of forefoot traction and cushioning. This year I thought I would give a dedicated pair of volleyball shoes a try, and went with the Gel Sensei's 2 after the price starting dropping. Ordered them online after seeing as most places and reviews have them running true to size.
The first time I put them on, I wondered if I shouldn't have a gone a half size bigger. They were noticeably tight across the top of my foot, a bit on the sides, and the laces seemed to come up short. I like to play in a light weight hiking type cotton/wool blend sock vs. a cotton athletic sock which concerned me as well as I was wearing the thinner cotton athletic sock when I tried them on. I ended up hitting the treadmill for a couple of miles and that was enough to shake out that intial tightness and they actually now fit like a glove (with the slightly thicker sock as well).
Playing in them, they perform a little like a running shoe and a little like a basketball shoe, which is what I was looking for. The soles will still pick up some dust, but there a few types of rubber compounds on the bottom of the shoe and I do feel they make a difference in limiting slippage and provide a firmer and more secure plant. They fit comfortably and don't shift on my foot when jumping or planting. They also seem to be well built. I saw where one reviewer talked about them lacking a cutout to allow the forefoot to flex, like a basketball or running shoe would have. I cannot say I have noticed any disadvantage to this in the shoe nor any discomfort or impact on performance. I think the cut out in those types of shoes may allow for a more natural running gait rather then effect planting, jumping, and moving laterally which tend to be the majority of your movements on the volleyball court. It isn't a shoe you would want to run in on a treadmill and likely it would feel a little off on a basketball court where you are doing a lot of straight line running.
Overall a great volleyball specific shoe that I think performs better then a basketball shoe does in a volleyball setting. I think it also makes a good weightlifting shoe if you are looking to get a little more versitility out of it.

Very Bad. Sep 24, 2009

Hi, This shoe retails for 115$ and I have been greedy a little bit and got it from this retailer for like $70 or something. I have been wearing court shoes for over 15 years now, including Asics. Just wore it yesterday for the first time on the court. This pair is the worst of all. I don't think it is the fault of the Asics as I am not sure, this is an original pair of Asics shoes. I asked for a refund and let's see how it goes.
Added to that, the look of it feels that it is not original and that it is a fake. Stop selling this shoe.
If anyone really wants the Asics Gel Sensei, look for an original from a reputed retailer.
