Description:

Baggu
Called the "It bag of the future" by Teen Vogue, this stylish and ridiculously practical bag (sold in packages of 3 and 6) is one easy step in helping save the planet. Baggu ("bag" in Japanese) is machine washable, and folds up into it's own pouch small enough to tuck into your handbag or pocket. Made of super-tough ripstop nylon in bright, fun colors, it's the re-usable bag that's eco-chic.

Why Baggus are so great? You want to replace your old friends--the paper & plastic bags--with something that does their job without creating needless waste or harming the environment. Using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags.

  • One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags; Six bags can hold a whole cart full of groceries.

  • Baggu Bag handles are the perfect length: you can hold them in your hand, on your forearm, or over your shoulder.

  • They are made from strong rip-stop nylon weighing only 2 oz. and can carry up to 25 lbs. They fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket; that way they are always handy when you need them.

  • Baggu bags have a nice big gusset in the bottom so they will sit flat when they are filled (good for eggs & milk).

.

Smart Design
Baggu was designed by mother-daughter team Joan and Emily in California. They both saw the need for a better reusable bag, and after dozens of prototypes, came up with a solution that makes using reusable bags stylish, practical and easy.

Baggu is great whether you shop on foot or drive to the store, you always need to have a bag or two that fold up small and can be carried in your purse, ready for an unexpected errand. .
.

Made of lightweight, hard working fabrics that will perform for years of service in all of your daily toting tasks: groceries, pharmacy purchases, gifts, and books, and pet food, and clothes and anything else you can think of--all the things you find yourself accepting a disposable bag to bring home.

Changing your own shopping habits is one small thing you can do to make a difference--feel good every time you use your BAGGU!

Plastic Bags & the Planet
The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year. Most of those bags end up in land fills. That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year.

In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose. Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife.

Every time you use your Baggu bag instead of plastic or paper you are doing something good.

2Good, but not great  Mar 15, 2008
By A reader "doigfan"
These bags are ok.....lots of hype made me order them. But...for the price, they are not all that fantastic. Bottom is not a 'gusset', and does not open wide. Each bag does not hold '3 times' more than regular grocery bags. Also...the color I received was not the color I ordered. After all that, the convenience of the small size when folded is nice, but the price is way too out of line to make me want to order any more.

5Finally, an answer to that drawer in your kitchen that is stuffed with bags you refuse to throw out...  Oct 20, 2007
By E. Miller "lainy1976"
There is something just so gross and wrong about throwing away those plastic grocery bags you get at the market, so at our house, we throw them in a drawer in the kitchen thinking we will somehow magically re-purpose them.... but how??? Weave them together and make doormats from them? If only we were so crafty.

This is finally the answer. I bought 3 in fuschia (why be basic, right?) and now I just keep one or two in my handbag at all times so that I can say no to the plastic at the store and just tote everything home in my own weightless little bag. They are also great for everything else, like hauling misc things to and from the car, throwing wet towels/bathing suits in after a trip to the gym or spa, etc etc.

The ripstop nylon is incredibly sturdy (more so than the flimsy plastic bags you get at the store) and carries as much weight or more as you could normally carry in said flimsy plastic bag.

If you're looking for a cool environmentally-friendly bag that's a little less granola and a little more hip, here you go.

Great little gifts for Christmas. Stock up and give out.

2Not that great  Apr 21, 2008
By *Bones* "Blame McSteve"
I decided to start using reusable bags when I'm out and about to cut down on the plastic bag full of plastic bags that has been growing in my kitchen pantry. So, I bought some reusable bags from the grocery store for 99 cents a piece. Lo and behold, I can never remember to bring them into the store with me, and so my plastic bag full of plastic bags continued to grow.

I browsed Amazon and found Baggu where it was described as being bigger than a regular plastic bag and a lot more convenient because it folds into a pouch. I decided to get the three pack in fuschia, even though I knew it wouldn't be enough, because I wanted to test them before I bought the full 6 pack.

I'm somewhat disappointed. I don't know how big other places' plastic bags are, but the Baggu is not bigger or even the same size as the regular plastic bags the stores have. It does not have much of a gusset type bottom and I find that my things get scrunched easily in it, same as plastic but not better.

Furthermore, I drive to and from the store and by the time I arrive home, the bag has released the captive groceries all over the trunk of my car. Okay, so I should have tied it. But, that would require less groceries to fit in an already small bag. Argh!!

Moving on, I liked that it was compact and could fold into a pouch, except that the pouch is a separate entity so the chances of losing it is high, exactly what I managed to do. I, personally, think they should have the pouch attached to the bag to eliminate the opportunity of it finding a new home on the asphalt of the grocery store parking lot.

In conclusion, the Baggu is not worth the price, if I were to judge its convenience or size. It is strong, since I managed to carry tons of library books in it at one time. The color is beautiful, but the bag does not fulfill my needs. Pass...

5Keep a New Year's resolution  Jan 07, 2008
By P. Grubbs "library lady"
Ordered these after a prompt from Amazon - they looked like just the thing to help me keep a New Year's resolution to use fewer bags. These bags are better than the canvas types sold in grocery stores - they hold more, they're lightweight, yet sturdy and they easliy refold into their little pockets. I keep mine in my glove box and usually have one in my purse. The ladies who developed this product should market them to grocery stores because they're a lot better than the ones I've seen available. Thank you.Baggu Reusable Shopping Tote - 6-Pack

2citymom  Mar 03, 2008
By citymom
Seen all kinds of press for this product, dissapointed when i got it. Way smaller than i thought and since i live in the city I wanted something I could carry over the shoulder and be able to hold my kids hand at the same time, the handles are not long enough to do so. On the plus side made well and liked color but gave mine to my single sister who has less requirements. Still looking for the perfect bags.
