Years ago I was grounded by plantar fasciitis. My foot doctor recommended Birkenstocks. I live in them now. I can hike for miles, walk with gladness, and dance, get down and really dance, for hours.
Don't get these shoes wet. The cork is much softer if you don't get them wet. I use different shoes in the rain or when I go in the ocean. (I live in Hawaii). The Birkenstock Rockford boots are waterproof and I use them when I have to travel to cold climates in the winter, and to take hikes anywhere. Birkenstocks have transformed my life. Plantar Fasciitis is a pain. I am grateful for these shoes.
I size them at the local Birky store and order them for far less here. I still patronize the local Birkenstock store when I get new soles etc.

A perfect slip-on sandal May 11, 2008

This sandal accentuates the beauty of the foot, while giving a substancial protective sole. It takes a little wearing to accostom the space between the toes to a thong, but once done, the sandal is comfortabe and easy to slip on without reaching down to the foot.

This shoe feels hard and tough so it won't fall apart anytime soon, but the sandal is not comfortable. For the price, I suppose I could have gotten much worse. If I could turn back the clock, I would have purchased a more expensive Birkenstock sandal and received one that is more comfortable. Not every Birenstock is made the same.

I started a new medication and have gained a lot of weight the last couple years. As such, I have also started to suffer from Plantar Fasciitis. I would have TERRIBLE heel pain upon waking, to the point of barely being able to walk. A Dr recommended multiple stretching exercises, which did not help at all. Another Dr recommended pain meds. I thought- Why on earth would I want to load myself up with drugs everyday?!? So some internet research led me to Birkenstock sandals. Apparently, a number of podiatrists have recommended them to their Plantar Fasciitis patients. I needed a new pair of summer sandals, and if they might help the pain, I thought, why not? I was reluctant, at first, having never worn Birks before. However, not only have I received MULTIPLE compliments on these shoes and been asked repeatedly where I got them, but my heel pain is practically gone!!!!! I have been wearing these almost daily for two weeks now. I do have some very mild pain upon initial waking, but a short while later I feel completely fine. I can walk all day in these, and have no foot pain at all. Admittedly, they were stiff in the beginning, and I wasn't sure they would work. Further, until they conformed to my foot, they were not very comfortable. A short while in, and I am now in LOVE! Birkenstock- you have a newfound and long-lasting fan! I will forever buy your shoes, so long as they continue to make walking comfortable. I have never written a review before, EVER, so needless to say I felt it was worth sharing. These are obviously not the most fashionable shoes on the block. However, if you're looking for comfy sandals for summer- buy these! YOUR FEET WILL THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I love these sandals. They are great with shorts, skirts and pants. They are really comfortable once you break them in.
