1A bad replacement for the previous style  Oct 26, 2010
By T. Benecke
I love New Balance. They're my favorite of all the brand shoes on the market. I've owned a pair of the predecessor to this shoe style for years and now use them for camping. They were great. As they've been wearing out, I wanted to purchase the same style but it was no longer available. This was the supposed replacement style. They are NO replacement to the original. These shoes were so uncomfortable - they hurt my feet. I gave them a fair shot - wore them several times but they never got better. It's like throwing money down the drain. I ended up tossing them.

New Balance: when you have a good thing going, don't screw it up by discontinuing the current model and replacing it. Newer isn't always better, especially when it comes to these shoes.

3Didn't work for me  Nov 28, 2011
By Caroline Rose
I'm not sure this shoe deserves all the bad reviews. I know people who swear by it, and it's a beautiful-looking shoe. However, it didn't work for me: on one of them, an inner seam (toward the front) fell in the wrong place and caused me enough pain that I immediately returned them. Many thanks to Amazon for their wonderful return policy!

By P. Rice "price814"
I loved my older New Balance walking shoes but these just don't fit my feet. They hurt and I returned them.

2Too Tight and Metal Grommet Loop is a Problem  Sep 22, 2011
By E. Deuble
Bummer! First ordered size 7B -- too narrow; Returned and bought 7D -- again, tight PLUS the inner metal grommet loop at the top of the shoe dug into my ankle as the tongue is a little narrow there; tried relacing in several configurations, and still a problem. I am looking for 749s as my 747s are finally wearing out. The 749s are difficult to locate. Sure wish New Balance would not fix what is not broke! The 747s were a great shoe in every way.

4New Balance Country Walker-I won't walk without it  Jan 23, 2012
By Debra Spies
I won't walk without these shoes because these are the most comfortable ones I've found. I have hip bursitis and lower back issues without these I wouldn't be walking nearly as much. They have a supportive sole and excellent traction. The are light weight and run in an adequate width. The only draw back is the lack of arch support. I always put a pair of insoles (smart feet green) in them and then they are nearly perfect.
