 Great shoe for walking and biking. Oct 02, 2009

This is my second pair of the Vasque Mantra. The first pair lasted a long time (not sure just how long) with quite a bit of use. I actually still use them, but they have become pretty ugly. The tops and are holding together well and the tread is wearing good. I mostly use them for light hiking on dirt trails, yard work, and bicycling. I mountain bicycle quite a bit and like the stiffer sole and how they fit into my toe clips. I've seen these advertised as a cross-trainer, and I can tell you that they in no way compares with a good pair of trail running shoes. (If you like Vasque products as I do, take a look at the Vasque Blur for trail running.) Nor would I want them for rugged hiking where you want more tread and ankle support. I have a wide foot and sometimes get a wide size if it's availible. The Medium width on the Mantra fits fine, but is just a little tight until broken in.
I rated this a 4 star because it's not quite a versitile cross training shoe. But it's a darned good shoe that will last, fit well, and do great for light hiking, walking, and bicycling.

I've paid alot more for shoes of lesser quality.This is a comfortable shoe that offers good support and is very versatile.Use for hiking or cross training.

I had a pair of these Vasque Mantras. Great fit, right out of the box, comfortable, great support. Good for around town, too.
Then, after wearing them for about 3 months, they experienced a catastrophic failure. The soles came off!
I called Vasque and they had ne return them (at my cost) . They quickly sent me a new pair at no cost. However, they sent the wrong size . So I called again, and they sent a pair in the right size (12) again with no cost, and they said I did not have to return the others. Service was very fast.
So the fact that they fell apart is scary, but the excellent customer service more than makes up for that, I think.

These are great shoes, not fashion statements. I'm buying as many pairs as I can before Vasque 'upgrades' to a new, more fashionable model and you can no longer find these...

I bought these because I like Vasque products, and these looked good in the pictures. The last was supposed to fit my foot style best. I got them quickly, and they are durable, well-made shoes... perhaps slightly better than the running shoes I've bought from Vasque in recent years. They are notably sitffer than the running shoes, but they are a good trade between "shoes" and the soft-cushion of running shoes. They also look smart.
